SMS stands for Short Message Service and is commonly referred to as a "text message". Most cell phones support this type of text messaging. Our notification provider, SchoolMessenger, uses a true SMS protocol developed by the telecommunications industry specifically for mass text messaging, referred to as “short code” texting. This method is fast, secure and highly reliable because it is strictly regulated by the wireless carriers and only allows access to approved providers. If you’ve ever sent a text vote for a TV show to a number like 46999, you have used short code texting.

NEW XCS ALERT SYSTEM (UPDATED FEB. 2025)
SCHOOL MESSENGER, THE NEW ALERT SYSTEM FOR XAVIER CATHOLIC SCHOOLS, WILL BE ACTIVE AS OF FEB. 12, 2025. SCHOOL MESSENGER WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR COMMUNICATING SYSTEM-WIDE WEATHER AND EMERGENCY INFORMATION TO FAMILIES AND STAFF. SCHOOL MESSENGER WILL ULTIMATELY REPLACE PREVIOUS SYSTEM-WIDE ALERT SYSTEMS.
Text alerts will always be in addition to an email alert families traditionally receive. -
TO RECEIVE XCS ALERTS...
YOUR PHONE NUMBER MUST BE LISTED IN POWERSCHOOL AND YOU MUST TEXT "Y" OR "YES" TO 67587.
SchoolMessenger sources contact information automatically from PowerSchool. In order to opt-in to receive text message notifications from Xavier Catholic Schools, your phone number must be listed in PowerSchool AND you must text "Y" or "Yes" from that number to our SMS "short code" phone number: 67587.UPDATING POWERSCHOOL INFORMATION
In PowerSchool under Review Contacts, the number you wish to receive text alerts at must be marked as a "MOBILE" number AND "SMS" must be checked for that number. PowerSchool will then automatically update SchoolMessenger periodically (typically once every 24 hours). For PowerSchool questions, contact Kelly Nachman in the XCS Central Office at [email protected].
NOTE: SchoolMessenger continues to be used by Regis Middle School as it has in the past. Any text alerts from Regis or Xavier Catholic Schools will come from the same short code number (67587). -
NON-POWERSCHOOL FAMILIES
Some families with children ages 0-2 in childcare at XCS Early Learning Centers will not have access to PowerSchool until their child reaches Preschool. These families can complete this form to receive text alerts.

OTHER ALERT SYSTEMS...
Individual XCS buildings may continue to send additional messaging via other apps/platforms, such as "Bound" (for families with students in XHS activities), Remind, etc. Even though it may mean more communication in your inbox/messages, those additional platforms remain a good way to ensure you are informed about potential building-specific impacts on day-to-day schedules and activities. Individuals can unsubscribe from lists at any time, but remember that you will not receive any communication via that platform until you opt back in.
